“Score”
A monthly dance happening started by Meshi Chavez that has elements, of performance, witness, improvisation and guidelines. Each month Meshi invites different Choreographers and Musicians to create the evenings Score.
A score simply put is a set of agreements or rules that will help to define how we as movers engage our relationship to space, movement, timing and each other. The purpose of having these rules, are to create a container while allowing each individual to push, expand, and move beyond the limits set. Bring your dancer, your artist, your curiosity, and your witness. Bring yourself to this process.
Tanhi Holt
Tahni is a choreographer and performer based in Portland OR. She is interested in body as cultural symbol, dance as brand identity, space as locator or non-locator. Recently she was extremely honored to be one of four Oregon Choreographers highlighted in the Art Gym's exhibition Dance: before, after, during. Preparatory materials and processes, documentation and performances.
Tahni's heart is summoned on high when working in collaboration. She has collaborated with a very talented roster of people. They include: Musicians Menomena, who consequently put out an album "under an hour" compiled of the sound score to Tahni's performance of that same name, performer David Echard, visual artist Marty Schnapf, Musician and Performer Thomas Thorson, Fashion Designer Jayme Hanson, Dance Artist Elizabeth Ward, Lighting Designer Malina Rodriguez and Jeff Forbes, Video Artist Chris Larson, Film Maker Dicky Dahl and Architect Andrew Kudless to name but a few.
She has worked with Dance Luminary Deborah Hay and most recently spent time in Europe where she performed in Vienna at Impulstanz through Eszter Salamon and Christine De Smedt's TRANSFORMERS.
Tahni is organizer of many things that aligns with her dance making. Along with Noelle Stiles, Danielle Ross and Robert Tyree, she produces the dance newspaper FRONT. She has helped curate a performance series: The Collision Series at Conduit Dance and over the years she has taught numerous workshops at Conduit Dance, Lewis and Clark College, Reed College and The University of Oregon.
She has been published in The Swedish Dance History, ON-GOING RESEARCH (pg. 1006), Independently published by: Impulstanz, INPEX, University of Dance and Circus, Konstnarsnamnden. 2010.
